Working under the direction of Geiger, Marden was given an assignment. What would later be called Rutherfords gold foil experiment was the discovery of the nucleous.
Though Rutherford would take credit for the finding it was Marsden who actully made the first discovery, earning himself a small but meaning full place in the history of the atomic theory.
